Gifts from the Heart

Making people happy...makes me a happier person.  I discovered this "truth" when I was a child.  The movie, "Pollyanna," was fiction.  I knew that.  Yet, I had that way of looking at life and finding the prisms dance.

During my junior year at Michigan I decided to become a secondary school educator.  From 1971 when I was hired to teach ninth grade in Livonia, I knew the classroom was where I could work my magic.  No magician here, I felt connected to my subject matter and (eventually) to the thousands of teens I had the privilege of educating.  Creating unique learning experiences was my passion.  Family members chose and successfully pursued careers in sales; I found teaching to be a creative activity and the ability to learn with my students, satisfying.

Professionally and personally, most understood my ability to see happiness in my life and cultivate it in others.  Quickly, three and a half decades passed leading me into my current adventure.

Mom closed her business, The Blue Cottage, in National City, MI about five years ago.  I was still teaching AP Government, Law and Justice at Churchill High School (11th and 12th grades) and just beginning to think about life after teaching.  Almost nine years ago, I moved into one of my favorite and happiest occupations: Grandma.  Retiring four years ago, I experimented selling Mom's gifts and collectibles on eBay and using message boards.

Just over a month ago I decided to create a website designed to sell high-quality, discounted gifts and collectibles.  The Blue Cottage became The Blue and White Cottage.  It will likely take me a couple years to completely list all the wonderful items we have to sell.  Please inquire if you are looking for something special for yourself or that person who is special to you.  I love to continue to make people happy - gifts from the heart!
